Directed Initiative On Ecological Economics
Ecological Economics is our current Directed Initiative
The current focus of our Directed Initiative is the field of ecological economics. In 2007, we made a $40,000 grant to Earth Economics. We are currently working with them to develop and disseminate materials related to the concepts of ecological economics. These concepts are also being used to create policy matrices that can be used to solve problems at a global scale or for our own ecosystem, the Puget Sound basin. In 2008, we will focus our Directed Initiative funds and energy on building a coalition of organizations and individuals that recognizes the importance of upgrading our current economic theories and principles to deal with the problems of the 21st century.
In addition to the volunteer hours of our board, and the work of our grantee, Earth Economics, we have also dedicated our 2008 and 2009 lecture series to introducing the theory of ecological economics and integrating this theory with issues of interest in Puget Sound.
