Your donations have made a difference

Your donations to SBLF over the past several years have funded some great grant applications, researching links between human health and the environment. Most importantly, the data that was generated from SBLF sponsored research has made a difference. Over the past several years, SBLF funded research has included several studies documenting persistent bio-accumulating toxins in our bodies. Not only have these studies helped make the public more aware of this issue, but the study results have helped spur legislative action in this area. Without SBLF funds we wouldn't have the data, and without the data we wouldn't have impacted public opinion and we wouldn't have legislative change. SBLF is currently funding research examining transportation and human health, important data for the Puget Sound region as we are faced with transportation initiative after transportation initiative. Additionally, SBLF funds have helped establish a graduate program in sustainability at the University of Washington. What better way to make a lasting contribution to our environment and our health!

Here's how the Seattle Biotech Legacy Foundation works:

Seattle Biotech Legacy Foundation is run by a volunteer board of directors.  Board members must be SBLF donors and members are elected to 2 year terms.  In addition to the board, we have Grants and Seminar Series Committees, a Scientific Advisory Group, and operational committees, all of which are chaired or co-chaired by board members.  All donors, regardless of level of contribution, are welcomed and encouraged to participate in SBLF activities.

SBLF is a group foundation that offers the opportunity to pool resources and to work together to explore and support efforts that further our mission.  Together, we identify and select projects to fund and lend our time, skills and expertise to these projects to ensure a meaningful outcome.

The Seattle Biotech Legacy Foundation works toward a healthy, sustainable future by promoting science-based understanding, solutions and actions that are grounded in recognition of the interconnected nature of our world.

SBLF is a Donor Advised Fund at The Seattle Foundation:

The Seattle Foundation (www.seattlefoundation.org), which was established in 1946, is the largest community foundation in our region and serves as an umbrella organization to support giving of a wide range of groups and individuals. Donor groups like us, who want to take an active role in grantmaking, can establish a Donor Advised Fund at the Seattle Foundation. This type of fund allows us to recommend specific charitable organizations to receive grants, while The Seattle Foundation manages the assets of the fund through professional investment managers and also handles administrative services. At its inception, our fund was called the YTBN Foundation at The Seattle Foundation. Our permanent name was selected in February 2003, and is now the Seattle Biotech Legacy Foundation at The Seattle Foundation.
